The primary focus of my entire legal career has been estate planning. During law school, I interned at an estate planning firm in Irvine, where the primary focus was providing their clients with affordable plans to help their clients' estates successfully avoid probate. It was there I learned how to create a functional trust and cohesive estate plan which would benefit my clients and their families for many years to come.
After law school, I spent five years at a boutique law firm in Newport Beach where my primary practice area was trust and estate litigation. I found this part of my legal career to be an eye opening experience! Suddenly I saw how even the best intended plans could fail miserably with the addition of, or lack thereof, a few simple provisions. Parents who loved their six children "equally" might name them all co-trustees not realizing the conflict that would occur when six people attempt to administer a trust together. In addition, I dealt with the well intentioned decedent who created a trust but didn't execute the necessary transfer documents and his or her estate was still subject to probate.
I like to joke that I spent my first three years of my legal career learning how to do estate planning and the next five learning how not to! My estate planning experience combined with my litigation experience has given me a unique perspective and intuition on how to avoid many problems before they occur. It is my goal to create cohesive estate plans that reflect my clients' wishes, avoid the expense of probate, but also minimize strife in their beneficiaries' lives.
As a mom to a wonderful five year old son, I know first-hand the love parents have for their children and how we'd do anything to make their lives easier. I have come to see estate plans are not necessarily for you the client, but an act of love for the ones you leave behind.
When I am not practicing law, I am having a blast with my son usually at the beach or Disneyland. I love to bake, travel to tropical places and read a great book (from thrillers to biographies, as long as it's a good read I am on it!) I look forward to meeting you and your family and helping you with all your estate planning and probate needs.
